I picked up this formula from a coach years ago and I’ve been applying it ever since. It sounds simple. It isn’t.
Event + Response = Outcome.
The event is whatever happens to you. A bad stream night. A missed PR. A content piece that flops. An injury. A situation at work. None of those are in your control.
The response is everything
Where people get stuck is thinking the event determines the outcome. It doesn’t. The response does.
You can have the worst stream of your life — technical issues, low numbers, the bit didn’t land — and still end the night better than you started, if your response is right. Log what went wrong. Adjust. Show up tomorrow.
Or you can take a bad event and let the response spiral. Rage. Quit early. Blame the game. Tell yourself you’re not cut out for this. Same event, different response, completely different outcome.
How I use it as a creator
Whenever something goes sideways — and in streaming, things go sideways constantly — I ask: what’s my response? Not “why did this happen” or “why does this always happen to me.” Just: what’s the response?
That question breaks the spiral. It gives you agency back.
Smile & Grow is the practical version of this formula. You choose to smile through the hard part, and you commit to growing from it. Every time. That’s the daily practice. That’s the rep.
Whatever event you’re dealing with right now — you control the response. Make it count.
Stay Spyce.
